Heating and air conditioning can be a big mystery, especially when something goes wrong. What happens if your A/C fan is always running? Here are some troubleshooting tips you can use if this happens to you:
There are two things to check on your thermostat if your air conditioner fan runs continuously.
First, check the temperature setting. If it’s set too low the A/C might not be able to keep up with demand. Turn the temperature setting higher than the room temperature. If the fan shuts off, that was the problem.
Second, check the fan switch. If it’s set to “on,” switch it to “auto” or “off” and see if the fan shuts off. If not, it’s not the fan switch.
Take a look at the blower on your cooling system. There should be a fan limit switch. If the switch is set to “manual,” it means the blower will run constantly. You want to switch it to “auto.” This allows the thermostat to control when the blower turns on and off based on demand.
If neither of these tips turn the air conditioner fan off, it might be time for a service call. A licensed technician can evaluate the situation and determine what could be the cause. If repairs are needed, they can do them while they are there.
If your air conditioner fan won’t turn off and you’ve done some troubleshooting, the next step is to call All City Heat and Air for a heating and air conditioning service call by contacting us or calling 704-545-2000.
Repair technician inspected newly installed thermostat, found installation error, and repaired. He then inspected the air handler and outside compressor. Discovered freon was leaking, topped off freon to hold me over, and made recommendations for future repairs and upgrades.
Response time was great - next day service, on a Saturday. Service fee was very reasonable, and the technician was polite, professional, and informative.
